O evento também protesta contra os poucos avanços na igualdade de direitos.

Enfrentamento ao racismo e a lesbofobia   

Na sua 20ª edição, a Marcha do Orgulho Gay, realizada em Novembro na cidade de Buenos Aires, na Argentina, festejou a lei do casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo, mas também criticou os lentos avanços no reconhecimento da igualdade de direitos entre os homossexuais. “Reivindicamos que seja aprovado o pedido das pessoas de serem reconhecidas pelo gênero com a qual se identificam”, disse Esteban Paulón, Presidente da Federação Argentina de Homossexuais, Bissexuais e Transexuais.

Paulón refere-se ao slogan “Lei de identidade de género já!”, que é o mote da marcha neste ano e pede que aqueles que assim desejam tenham nos documentos de identidade qual o gênero que se encaixam. Cerca de 150 mil pessoas comparecem ao evento e marcharam rumo à Câmara do Deputados, onde são avaliados atualmente tais projetos de lei. A marcha também exigia mais atos de prevenção ante violências cometidas contra homossexuais.

A Marcha do Orgulho Gay acontece desde 1992, sempre no primeiro sábado de Novembro. No Brasil, a Parada do Orgulho Gay está na sua 15ª edição.

Então, pensando e agindo assim, o ano de 2012
Não será o ano do fim,
Nem o ano do apocalipse,
Nem de destruição,
Nem do término da civilização.
2012 será, sim, o ano que quisermos para nós e para toda a humanidade:
Um ano de paz,
De amor,
De reconciliação,
De solidariedade,
De amizade,
De construção da nova humanidade.
Esta nova nova humanidade não nascerá da destruição da humanidade atual.
Ela nascerá a partir desta de modo gradativo, através de uma mudança de valores, de conceitos e de paradigmas.
2012 é apenas mais um ano para esta transformação humana que já está em curso há algum tempo.
Então, sejamos felizes, manifestemos felicidade e atrairemos somente energias de construção ao invés de energias de colapso que só alimentam as trevas do ego de quem não se sente capaz de contribuir com um pouco de sua luz para o bem de toda a Terra...

  • The Three Feasts of the Nativity
    When we celebrate Christmas we are commemorating the three nativities of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the reason for the three Masses celebrated on this day. The first is the eternal begetting of God the Son from all eternity within the mystery of the Blessed Trinity by the Father, “You are My Son. Today I have begotten You.” This first nativity was before the seven days of Creation, when everything was darkness. This is why the first Mass is at midnight to recall the darkness that prevailed during that first eternal birth of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity.
    The second nativity, or birth, of the Second Person of the Trinity is commemorated on Christmas day when He became man, born of the Virgin Mary, in Bethlehem. For the world, the darkness was beginning to be dispelled. This is why the second Mass is celebrated at dawn when the dawn is beginning to dispel the darkness.
    The third nativity of Christ is when He is born in our souls, through His in-dwelling, when man, through grace, becomes enlightened. Thus the third Mass is celebrated during the day when the sun is bright. For man is truly enlightened when he has Christ in his soul.
    The first nativity reminds us of the Spirit of poverty, the Spirit that tells us that all the things God created is His, to be used for His glory and not for man’s enjoyment. Even man was to use himself for the glory of God. This represents the six days of creation. If Adam, being the head of creation, had observed the spirit of poverty and used all of creation for the glory of God, then he would have entered into the Sabbath, God’s rest… i.e. eternal happiness. But Adam messed up everything. And the consequence: the whole of mankind could not enter God’s rest.
    The second nativity reminds us of the Spirit of chastity. That Spirit reminds us to give up all physical comforts, pleasure and conveniences. And Christ in the manger is a clear example of this. It is a continuous reminder that true happiness can only be found in God and that we are on earth to seek God. All the rest will come with that find. True rest can only be found in God.
    The third nativity reminds us of the Spirit of obedience. It is only when we can say, “Not my will but Your will be done,” can Christ be born in our souls. The apostolic commission at the end of St. Matthew’s Gospel reiterates this, reminding us of the role of the Church and the men of the Church: “… teach all My commands and how to observe them.”
    Christmas reminds us of one lesson. Christ was born to die. For us the message is clear. We are born to die to oneself. And to die to oneself means reaching a point in our lives when we no longer do our own will but the will of the Father in heaven. This is to lose one’s life in order to find it. If we have learned the lessons of the first nativity, if we have learned the lesson of the second nativity, our reward is the third nativity, when Christ is born in our souls….indeed our eternal Christmas. This is truly a Merry Christmas.

    Best of Queer DC: GLOE!(?) (Or, And the sparkly pony goes to…)

    GLOE is nominated as Best Community Org!I have the sparkliest spot in the GLOE office picked out.
    If we were to win Best Community Organization in the Brightest Young Gays 2011 round-up of the Best of Queer DC, then clearly we’d need an appropriately sparkly place of honor.
    Yes, you’ve guessed it: GLOE was nominated for a Ponies Choice Award.
    We were a bit shocked to see our name next to some really excellent (and much bigger!) organizations, and in all seriousness, are quite honored to be considered among them. GLOE is very proud to be part of our DC, Jewish and LGBTQ communities, and we work everyday to engage queer Jews and our friends in social justice; in arts and culture programs; and in creating community.
    GLOE's Masquerade & Mischief Purim PartyAnd we throw a great party. We’ve been doing all of it for five years now, and I hope we’ll be doing it for at least 50 more.
    We know and work with folks at almost all these other places nominated, so believe me when I say they all deserve sparkly ponies.
    Because the ballot doesn’t tell you about them, I wanted to:
    Food & Friends gets food and nutritional counseling to people with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Whitman-Walker Clinic takes care of the health of the LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS communities. DC Trans Coalition fights for the trans and gender-diverse community of DC. GLOV works to reduce violence again LGBT people and support survivors. SMYAL supports our LGBTQ youth through programs, counseling and education.
    There are obviously more local groups who should be on this list. Plus, DC is lucky to have so many organizations that I think of as local, but are actually national, and just happen to be in the neighborhood.
    Even if some of the categories are slightly less… wholesome… than others, shall we say, this is still a great reminder of why we do what we do.
    Even in DC, even in 2011, I still have people who tell me things along the lines of, “After I came out, I really stopped being Jewish (/Catholic/Muslim) because I didn’t think you could really be both, and with GLOE, I love that I can have those sides together again.”
    If you love that, too, we’d love it if you would vote for GLOE.
